Primary School Support – National Parents Council

Yvonne is an Independent Trainer for National Parents Council and so delivers a number of training sessions to parents via their school on the following topics:

Supporting parents to support their children’s mental health and wellbeing.
Positive mental health and wellbeing enables young people to lead fulfilling lives. It is recognised that the family is the primary source of nurturing and support for children and plays a central role in the promotion of their positive mental health.

Anti-Bullying for parentsThis is an anti-bullying programme for parents of primary and post primary children.  The session will enable you to support your child regarding issues of bullying and will also inform you about the Anti Bullying Procedures for Primary and Post Primary Schools.

Transition from primary to post-primary
Every year more than 50,000 children in Ireland move from primary to post primary education. This training is aimed at parents whose child is in 5th or 6th class or has just moved from primary to post primary school.

Internet Safety
The overall objective of the session is to provide parents with information and skills to be able to engage in their children's online lives. Co-financed by the European Union - Connecting Europe Facility & Virgin Media.

Secondary School Bullying

Bullying is such a prevalent problem with today’s teens.  Due to seeing the effect of bullying first-hand and the impact it can have on a young person, timely support can make a huge difference to the young person and their parents/guardians.  This is not something someone should go through alone, but know that there is support there. If you know someone who is currently experiencing bullying and could do with someone to talk to, contact Yvonne to see how she can help.

Managing Stress & Anxiety

Unfortunately, a certain level of stress is normal. Positive stress responses from events such as changing schools and meeting new friends can actually help students learn and grow. But when exposed to repeated stressful events without the tools to manage feelings, stress can become emotionally and physically toxic. Unlike adults, who can communicate about how stress impacts their lives, young people may not recognize or even have the words to describe how they’re feeling. Students are experiencing stress at growing rates.

However, parents can watch for short-term behaviours and physical symptoms that manifest when stress becomes a problem. Yvonne has worked many years with young people both in a school environment and privately as a Counsellor.  She thoroughly enjoys the relationships she builds with young people and the changes that can happen in their lives during this work, enabling them to embrace ways, approaches and techniques to living a full and healthy life. Contact Yvonne if you wish to discuss an area of concern for your son/daughter or a teenager you know.
